PROFILE

My name is David Cross and I am a woodwork designer, maker and mentor.

I crafted my first creation at age 7- a timber stool that I have lovingly held onto and am proud to say is still as sturdy as ever.

What started as a passionate hobby, became an extensive career spanning over 30 years including designing, making, restoring and curating. Wood is always in the mix.

Now, I bring my experience in design and creation full circle, taking on the role of teacher and mentor to aspiring woodwork students.

DC Studio is my woodwork school offering woodwork sessions for every age, every capability and skill level, from beginner to advanced.

My want is to share my passion and extensive knowledge, and empower people to set and achieve their goals and be creative with their woodworking.

THEY SAID

David expertly guided my brother and I through a delightful first project building a record rack and a teapot display cabinet.
We learnt an enormous amount, and the experience inspired us to truly dive into the hobby and start building our own furniture, which has lead to coffee tables, doors and outdoor dining suites.
- Ned
I would highly recommend David to anyone wanting to either take their skills to the next level or even for those starting out. David strived for the participants success and this was evident in his teachings.
David is an excellent communicator, always speaking clearly and listening intently, resulting in great outcomes for his students, including those living with a disability.
He is always insightful, helpful and down to earth making each day a great experience.
- Cam
As a beginner in woodworking I was quite anxious about using machinery and tools.
Under David’s encouraging and careful guidance I was able to design and build from scratch my first piece of furniture which is an amazing feeling of accomplishment and huge confidence boost.
- Karen
Learning from David was a delight. He is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about his craft and eager to share this with anyone willing to learn.
As a teacher he is patient, engaging and encouraging with a keen ability to identify your strengths and weaknesses and guide you on your woodworking journey.
- Josh
Woodworking classes with David were always the highlight of my week - a really fun, supportive environment where it's totally OK to be a beginner and everyone is welcome.
- Evie
David was an absolute pleasure to work with. He was highly receptive to my intentions as far as the outcome of the project, whilst being informative and pragmatic to achieve minimal compromise.
His craftsmanship and attention to detail is second to none, and on top of all of that, he’s just an all round lovely person to get to know during the process.
- Harry
Working with David built my skills and gave me the confidence to start making independently. As a beginner it felt like there was so much to learn but David really listened to me and worked at my pace.
- Lisa
David provided clarity in his instructions which empowered the participant and enabled them to hone their skills to an exceptional level. Even despite the COVID-19 pandemic, David worked hard to facilitate a safe working environment and was innovative in his approach to each lesson.
Safety and familiarity with tools and machines was continuously emphasised which made it easy to gain confidence and independence around the workshop.
